WHY I AM RUNNING FOR THE SAANICH SCHOOL BOARD

WHY I AM RUNNING FOR THE SAANICH SCHOOL BOARD

mosh pit teachingI am motivated to become a trustee because Sidney and the district needs a strong experienced educational policy leader to defend our community schools and local learning initiatives, while advocating effectively for students, parents, teachers and support staff. I am also inspired to service the debt I owe to our community schools for their continuing service above the call to my family, and community. As an award winning K-12, university educator, and educational innovation leader with diverse Canadian and international experience, I believe I am uniquely prepared to serve as trustee for the Sidney zone, and invite all voters to visit my website, Twitter and Facebook accounts for an overview of my background and platform.

My Pledge to My Sidney Neighbours and Friends

If elected I pledge to:

Defend community schools, and work to restore smaller class sizes and support services

Review all District budge line items for efficiencies that can be returned to classrooms

Donate 10% of my Trustee pay to create a learning innovation fund. I challenge all Trustee candidates in BC to do the same

Ensure all students, teachers and support staff have equitable access to all funds, programs and services offered by District 63.

Create a Scholar, Tradesperson, and Business Person-in-Residence program for our middle and high schools

Make evidence based decisions informed by my rich experience as an internationally recognised educational leader

The Purposes of Education: Democracy and the Good Life…

panama speech

Please find a link below to a PowerPoint presentation I have created in order to give Sidney voters a better idea of my conceptions of the power and purpose of education. I have dedicated my career to teaching, leading, and founding schools because of my belief in the possibility of education, and the collective responsibility we all share in this essential public service to our communities and our future…

I think H.G. Wells best summed up the overarching importance of education to our survival, when he said, ““Civilization is in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.”

The Canadian School Board Association (CSBA) also provides research and support to Trustees, including funding a substantive research study and report by Memorial University’s Bruce Sheppard et. al.(2013)] exploring the significance of Canadian School Boards, School Boards Matter: Report of the Pan-Canadian Study of School District Governance. My family in the picture above inspire and inform my passionate desire to help lead School District #63.
